We use Mandrill for transactional emails. At one point it was its own company, but then it was acquired by MailChimp and even though they are under the same umbrella they are not seamlessly integrated and this makes it awkward sometimes.

We use Mandrill for our transaction mail, which piggybacks on MailChimp for easy template design. Mandrill is very easy to use. It was free until recently, so now we use it with MailChimp.

Mandrill - Best Transactional Email Tools for Startups

Mandrill is an email marketing tool developed by the MailChimp team as a more technical version of its primary product. It was built with developers in mind, so fair warning: If you’re not comfortable with code or APIs--or have someone on your team who is--this isn’t the tool for you. Mandrill offers a lot of the same benefits as standard email service providers, like trigger emails, customized newsletters and promotional campaigns, while still maintaining the same easy interface that draws users to MailChimp. What sets Mandrill apart is its techy mission, which gives users increased customization options, flexible templates, custom tagging, advanced analytics and a mobile app that lets you monitor email delivery and troubleshoot on the go.

How startups use Mandrill?

Mandrill is most frequently used by seed-stage companies. It gives these smaller companies the API that they need to accomplish sophisticated marketing tasks that would otherwise be too time-consuming for such a small team.

How much does Mandrill cost?

Mandrill’s pricing is structured around month-to-month volume so that customers don’t have to pay for more than they need. The first 12,000 emails per month are free, with charges per thousand emails beyond that. For the first 1 million emails you send, Mandrill charges $.20/1,000 emails, and for the next 5 million, it charges $.15/1,000. Anything above that costs $.10/1,000.
