Fiverr is a freelance marketplace where you can bid on a project. Every bid starts at 5 USD. It is very focused on Design and as with all freelance marketplaces you have to interview the applicants.

We’ve used Fiverr and Upwork to find people to do small editing jobs.

We use Fiverr for specific, focused things. For example, we use Fiverr for transcriptions, so we send them dialogue and they transcribe it for us.

Fiverr - Best Find Freelancers Tools for Startups

Fiverr is a service marketplace where services (called “gigs”) start at $5. Fiverr is a lot like Upwork, regarding uses and design. However, projects on Fiverr are treated as simple transactions between buyer and seller, instead of “client” and “freelancer.”

As a buyer, it’s easy to use and navigate Fiverr. The journey is simple: Find a gig then buy the gig. It’s important to keep in mind the amount of sellers and gigs available on Fiverr. There are over three million services available on Fiverr. Buyer we warned: there are a lot of scammers on Fiverr, so the onus is on you to find the right seller. But there are great sellers on Fiverr that produce great results. It’s all about finding them.

When browsing through Fiverr for a gig, it’s easy to filter your search by terms or browse by categories instead. Popular Fiverr categories are Marketing and Graphics & Design. Other categories are Writing & Translation, Video & Animation, Music & Audio, Programming & Tech, Advertising, Business, and Fun & Lifestyle.

You can sort gigs by what Fiverr recommends, their Average Customer Review, and by newest arrivals. When you find a gig you like can learn more about the seller. Things like how many jobs they’ve completed, how many gigs they reject, and where they’re located.

Levels define sellers. They’re categorized as New Sellers, Level 1, Level 2, and Top Rated.

Different seller levels play into how many add-ons they can upsell with gigs. The base price for Fiverr gigs is $5, but for extra options related to your gig, you can get added upgrades. Certain sellers also offer “packages” which are just tiered versions of their work.

From using it and from founders, Fiverr is great for small jobs when you find the right seller. A good rule of thumb would be to find sellers with a proven history of doing the gig well.

How startups use Fiverr?

Startups use Fiverr to outsource very small jobs. Fiverr is not intended for large scale projects, and is great for simple tasks like voice-overs, transcriptions, Photoshop edits, copywriting edits, user testing, and keyword research.

How much does Fiverr cost?

Gigs on Fiverr start at…. $5. Pretty affordable, by startup standards 😉

Gigs can get more expensive depending on the scale of the project or if you elect to any add-ons sellers include in their gigs. Pricing for add-ons depends on the level of the seller, and high-level sellers can also create custom quotes prices on Fiverr.

Standout Features

Find Cheap Gigs

Fiverr gigs start at $5, which is pretty amazing for a lean entrepreneur. There are a lot of gigs to choose from on Fiverr. You don’t have to go in looking for something specific. You can find a lot of weird stuff that you didn’t know you needed or wanted. Maybe you wanted a celebrity voice over video for your startup? Or prank call your competitors?

Other than that, there are a lot of practical gigs available on Fiverr that start at $5. Fiverr is good for Photoshop work, blog outlines, keyword research, copy editing and getting art made.

Post Cheap Gigs

If you need a specific service, you can post a specialized request. Maybe finding the gig on Fiverr was tough. There were too many options. Or there weren’t enough. It’s similar to posting a job on Upwork and then getting proposals from freelancers sending you offers.

You can sort your offers by reviews, delivery time, price, and rating. Makes it easy to find out more about the seller offering their gig and contacting them.

Fiverr has a community forum where users (buyers and sellers) can post questions and have discussions about the platform and best practices. If you have questions about how to use the platform, feel free to post in the forum.

Fiverr Complaints

Common problems regarding Fiverr would be whether or not it’s a scam. While there are tons of less than reliable sellers and gigs on Fiverr that are scams, Fiverr is not. It’s just a tool that connects you to freelancers.

That being said, some common complaints with Fiverr are with their refund policy. Refunding on Fiverr is dependant on when it happened. You can get refunds for your orders if:

 - A seller is unresponsive

 - If there are abusive threats from either party

 - If there are copyright/trademark infringing materials in the order

 - If the seller marked it as completed but did not provide the final service

 - The seller didn’t deliver any files or proof of work

 - If the seller requests additional payments off the Fiverr platform and withholds the delivery.

 - Other disputes are examined by the Fiverr case team or whatever they are called.

Refunds get added to your Fiverr balance, not your PayPal account. So any purchase you make on Fiverr becomes a sunk cost.

There are also a lot of complaints regarding some Fiverr services, usually related to any of the digital marketing gigs. From users who’ve tried out backlinking gigs, they’ve found that their SEO gets negatively impacted after buying on Fiverr. Backlinking schemes on Fiverr link to your site from sites that Google has a high-risk of marking as spam.

Any traffic that you purchase to your blog is mostly from bots, so they aren’t real customers/readers. Same goes for purchasing followers on social media from Fiverr.
